Social Anxiety

“Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to be normal.”

~ Albert Camus

NH-Psychologist | Social Anxiety | Psychologist NHEveryone can relate to feeling anxious before giving a resentation or asking someone out on a date.

However, if you have social anxiety disorder, also known as social phobia, the anxiety you experience is a more intense fear of being scrutinized and negatively evaluated by others in performance or social situations.

People with social phobia may have an intense fear of talking to a salesperson, starting a conversation with a stranger or a person in authority, participating in meetings or classes, attending parties, or eating or drinking in front of others. While they recognize that the fear is excessive and unreasonable, people with social anxiety disorder feel powerless against their anxiety. They are terrified they will embarrass or humiliate themselves.

Social anxiety can interfere significantly with your daily routines, occupational performance, or social life, and may make it difficult for you to complete school, interview and get a job, or have friendships and romantic relationships. Physical symptoms often accompany the intense anxiety of social phobia and include blushing, profuse sweating, trembling, nausea and difficulty talking.

While we all have certain concerns about being scrutinized, I may be able to help if you experience excessive social anxiety.
